(Brazil, 22nd) Brazilian media reports that China has suspended beef imports from three Brazilian meat processing plants after discovering the use of veterinary synthetic hormones banned in Asian countries in cattle.
Reuters, citing Brazilian outlet Globo Rural on Thursday (May 21), reported that the factories whose imports were suspended belong to JBS—the world's largest meat processor—as well as Prima Foods and Frialto. As of now, all three companies have not responded to requests for comment.
This move comes as officials from Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture are visiting China this week to hold talks with Chinese officials. Brazil is seeking to expand exports to its largest trading partner, China, and has requested that China approve export qualifications for 33 meat processing plants.
The Brazilian beef industry association Abiec said on Wednesday (May 20) that China had approved three factories, which had previously had their export qualifications suspended in 2025, to resume beef exports to China.
