(Brunei, 23rd) From September 7 to 17 this year, a delegation of five faculty members from Chung Hwa Middle School, Brunei, visited three schools in Nanjing, China, on a ten-day study tour focused on smart teaching with artificial intelligence.
The smart classrooms and innovative education models in Nanjing left a deep impression on the delegation members, opening a new chapter in educational cooperation between the two regions. Recently, after completing all their visits, the delegation returned home with fruitful results and honors.
The delegation was led by Deputy Principal Ma Haoyao, and included teachers Ms. Su Qiaohan (Chinese Division, Lower Primary Assistant Head), Mr. Huang Laifa (High School Physics teacher), Ms. Liu Huiling (Kindergarten), and Mr. Lin Zhihao (Information Technology Assistant).
It is understood that from March 19 to 26 this year, a 13-member education delegation from Chung Hwa Middle School led by Chairman Mr. Yang Dezhen visited eight schools in Nanjing and Nantong, Jiangsu Province, China for a week-long education visit. This is the second delegation sent by the school to Nanjing for study purposes this year.
Sending two education delegations to Nanjing within just half a year, both focusing on artificial intelligence in education, demonstrates the school’s strong commitment and sense of urgency toward AI education.
During this recent trip, the delegation successively visited sister schools: Yuhuai Foreign Language Primary School in Nanjing, Nanjing Normal University Affiliated Qinhuai Science and Technology High School, and Nanjing No.5 Senior High School. In-depth research was conducted around smart educational equipment and AI teaching practices. The content covered five main areas: visiting maker classrooms and observing drone and robot operations; further understanding the convenience AI equipment brings to teachers; the effectiveness of AI teaching in improving teachers' teaching quality; the degree of student absorption in AI-based education; and how school administration utilizes data provided by big data analytical systems.
Principal Xu Yuelan of Chung Hwa Middle School said that the school understands well that AI is a crucial direction for the future of education. In less than six months, from a 13-member administrative delegation in March to a 5-member special study group in September, the two trips not only aimed to understand the latest developments in AI education but also demonstrated the school’s commitment to systematically integrating cutting-edge technologies and ideas into Brunei’s Chinese education system, providing students with higher-quality and more modern educational resources and nurturing talents for the future.
From September 8-10, the first stop was at Nanjing Yuhuai Foreign Language Primary School, where the delegation visited the honor exhibition hall, geek space, makerspace, and smart library, and observed the school’s flag-raising ceremony. They were warmly received by Party Secretary Dou Lin and Principal Shi Li.
During the exchange, the school’s robotics club and intelligent teaching applications were presented. Deputy Principal Lü Pengpeng introduced the school’s “Smart & Innovative” curriculum, systematically explaining its educational objectives and implementation paths. Teachers demonstrated robotics teaching and smart interactive classrooms, showcasing the school’s leading exploration and practice in science and innovation education.
In the forum, both sides reached a cooperation intention regarding AI curriculum development and faculty/student exchange. Deputy Principal Ma Haoyao presented Yuhuai Foreign Language Primary School with a commemorative gift with distinctive Bruneian characteristics.
On September 11, the delegation’s second stop was the friendly Nanjing Normal University Affiliated Qinhuai Science and Technology High School, where they were warmly welcomed by Party Secretary Zhuo Bin and Principal Wu Qin.
During the visit, the delegation experienced in person the real-time interaction and instant feedback features of the AI smart classroom. They paid particular attention to the Huohua Academy teaching resources platform, which contains a vast collection of high-quality 3D/VR teaching resources, a well-organized subject knowledge system, and AI-driven personalized learning journeys—providing important insight for Chung Hwa Middle School’s innovation in Chinese and STEM education.
On September 12, the third stop was Nanjing No.5 Senior High School, where they expressed gratitude for the warm reception from Party Secretary Gao Huacheng and Principal Xu Guangjing. The delegation highly praised the school’s results in AI education and expressed intentions to learn from its success in advancing the innovation of Chinese education in Brunei. Both sides extensively discussed AI curriculum development, teacher training, and student exchanges, laying the groundwork for future cooperation.
In addition, the delegation politely called on Mr. Liu Lianqun, Director of the International Exchange Service Centre of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education; Ms. Sun Man, Deputy Director of Nanjing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office; and Mr. Lu Puxin, Deputy Director of Nanjing Municipal Education Bureau. They discussed ways to promote educational and cultural cooperation between Nanjing and Chung Hwa Middle School.
The exchanges and cooperation between Chung Hwa Middle School and Nanjing are substantive and multi-layered. In March 2025, the school signed a friendship school cooperation agreement with Nanjing Normal University Affiliated Qinhuai Science and Technology High School—laying a firm foundation for future in-depth exchanges. In less than half a year, the delegation visited again. This was not only a demonstration of technology, but also an exchange of ideas and a strategic alignment, creating a new bridge for education cooperation between the two regions.
Members of the delegation all expressed that the study tour was highly rewarding, and they look forward to establishing long-term, stable, and mutually beneficial cooperation with education partners in Nanjing. They wish to jointly explore innovative models integrating AI with Chinese and STEM education and look forward to deeper and broader cooperation in areas such as smart campus construction, teacher training, and curriculum resources in the future.
