(Bandar Seri Begawan, 14th) The University of Brunei is one of the 1,023 participating universities from 92 countries/regions in the inaugural Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, held in collaboration with Schmidt Science.

This pioneering work measures universities' contributions and commitments to interdisciplinary science by evaluating three key areas (pillars): input (funding), process (administrative support, facilities, and research promotion), and output (quality and reputation of publications). The methodology combines a detailed analysis of institutional research publications and citations with survey responses from over 20,000 scholars worldwide.

In the global rankings, the University of Brunei is positioned at 142nd and has performed outstandingly among the 749 ranked universities. In Southeast Asia, the university ranks 19th in the 'input' pillar of interdisciplinary fields, including computer science, engineering, life sciences, and physical sciences, which include contributions from industry partners.

The University of Brunei also ranks 18th among Southeast Asian universities in publishing high-quality research publications emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration. The university's performance is measured in the 'output' pillar based on its field-weighted citation impact and results from interdisciplinary research reputation surveys.

This global survey was conducted in 2024, requiring active researchers to list up to five institutions globally best in interdisciplinary scientific research.

In terms of processes promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, the University of Brunei ranks 7th among Southeast Asian universities, a remarkable achievement. For this 'process' pillar, universities are evaluated based on the facilities and administrative support they provide, enabling seamless collaboration between different scientific disciplines and departments.

Besides its core scientific performance, the University of Brunei has made significant progress in research in the fields of social sciences and health sciences, focusing on education, policy, public health, and discipline-based technology.

Furthermore, the University of Brunei continues to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration with the arts and humanities, highlighting its holistic approach to advancing research and fostering innovative solutions to address global challenges.

This recognition reinforces the University of Brunei's commitment to interdisciplinary excellence and underscores its pivotal role in advancing science, research, and innovation in Brunei and beyond.
