A house fire broke out in Waldorf, Maryland, USA, on Sunday, resulting in six deaths, including four children.
The incident occurred at around 8:40 a.m. at a location approximately 88 kilometers south of Baltimore. At the time of the fire, one adult escaped from the house. There were a total of nine people living in the home, but two were not at home when the incident happened.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal posted on X that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but there is no evidence of criminal activity.
70 Firefighters Took Over 1 Hour to Control the Blaze
About 70 firefighters took more than an hour to bring the blaze under control. One firefighter was sent to the hospital, and another emergency responder was treated at the scene; the extent of their injuries is unknown.
Deputy State Fire Marshal Alkire said that the fire started in an enclosed porch on the right side of the house. It is not yet clear if the smoke alarms in the residence were functioning properly.
Acting State Fire Marshal Mowbray issued a statement: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of six lives, including four children, in today's incident in Waldorf. We extend our condolences to the families affected by this tragic event. In this difficult time, let us unite, support one another, and reaffirm our commitment to fire safety."
