Violation of Immigration Regulations: 4 Foreign Men Jailed, Caned, and Fined

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 14th) The Immigration and National Registration Department carried out enforcement actions, and four foreign men were sentenced to imprisonment, caning, and fines for multiple offenses related to immigration and passport violations.
One of the offenders, a Bangladeshi man named Osman Gani (47 years old), admitted to overstaying in the country and was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment and three strokes of the cane. His sentence will take effect on May 20, 2025.
Orlando Augustin Viloria (32 years old) from the Philippines was sentenced to a fine of $1,000 and three months’ imprisonment for illegally departing and failing to present his passport upon entry. As he failed to pay the fine, he was given an additional one month in jail. His sentence will start on June 24, 2025.
Meanwhile, an Indonesian man named Man Aidi (43 years old) was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment and three strokes of caning for overstaying and using forged immigration documents. The sentence will take effect on June 30, 2025.
In addition, a Thai man named Anruli Hindo (45 years old) was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment and three canings for overstaying. His sentence will commence on July 1, 2025.
The Immigration and National Registration Department reminds the public, especially foreign nationals, that according to Brunei’s laws, overstaying is a serious offense and can result in imprisonment and corporal punishment.
