(Bandar Seri Begawan, 7th) Major 920 Prince Mateen has been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, with the appointment effective from August 8, 2025. The insignia presentation ceremony was held yesterday at the Bolkiah Officers' Mess, personally officiated by His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei.
Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, attended the ceremony along with other distinguished guests to witness this solemn moment. Prince Mateen’s wife, Pengiran Anisha Rosnah, was also present.
Upon arrival at the military camp, His Majesty the Sultan was warmly welcomed by the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Defence, Pehin Halbi, as well as the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Dato Mohd Haszaimi.
During the ceremony, after reviewing the Royal Brunei Land Forces, His Majesty proceeded to the officers' mess to personally bestow the lieutenant colonel insignia upon Prince Mateen. In addition, His Majesty also presented rank insignia to 18 senior officers who were promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Brunei Navy.
Lieutenant Colonel 920 Prince Mateen is a professional and dedicated officer, graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK. He is a certified pilot of the Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAF), holds pilot badges from both the Royal Air Force (RAF) of the UK and the Royal Brunei Air Force, and is qualified to fly the S70i Black Hawk helicopter.
Since October 28, 2019, Prince Mateen has served in the Royal Brunei Air Force Special Forces Regiment (RPK), and in December 2021, completed the All Arms Commando Course (AACC) at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM) in Lympstone, UK, obtaining the Green Beret qualification.
In July this year, Prince Mateen also successfully completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC) at the UK Defence Academy in Shrivenham, further enhancing his professional military proficiency and leadership as a senior officer of the Royal Brunei Air Force.
