SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said during a joint press conference at SK Group headquarters that SK Group will work together with NVIDIA to build artificial intelligence (AI) factories.
According to Yonhap News, Chey Tae-won said at SK Seorin Building in Seoul on the 8th that SK Group's cooperation with NVIDIA has mainly focused on the storage sector so far, but in the future, it will expand to all business areas of SK Group. He said the term 'AI factories' collectively refers to AI data centers, including SK Hynix wafer fabs. SK Group will work with NVIDIA to map out a research and development roadmap and will continue to collaborate to more quickly meet future AI demands.
Jensen Huang emphasized that global demand for AI factories is rising rapidly and the related industry is in a boom phase. This is why NVIDIA and SK Group are establishing this partnership. The two companies are currently in the early stages of building AI infrastructure, and the future looks very promising. He said that SK Hynix has always been NVIDIA's largest memory semiconductor partner, and this position will remain unchanged in the future.
According to SK Hynix's quarterly report, in the first quarter of this year, SK Hynix's sales to NVIDIA reached 7.7806 trillion Korean won (about 20.5 billion ringgit), making NVIDIA SK Hynix's single largest customer.
