The Shanghai Disney Resort has released its latest statistics, announcing that Shanghai Disneyland welcomed its 100 millionth visitor last week, over nine years since opening. Alongside releasing this data, the resort also announced plans to build its fourth themed hotel.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Joe Schott, President and General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, said: "We continually design and provide uniquely Disney, distinctive new experiences for our guests. The resort’s latest expansion plan is a testament to this commitment. This brand-new hotel will become an important part of our overall resort experience."
The new expansion project will be located near the main entrance of Shanghai Disneyland, becoming the resort’s fourth themed hotel. Once completed, it will be the closest Disney hotel to the park, just steps away from entering the park.
It is understood that this brand-new project will join a series of expansion projects currently underway at Shanghai Disney Resort. These include the resort’s third themed hotel, the park’s ninth major themed area—Spider-Man Land—as well as iconic attractions like "Soaring Over the Horizon."
The announcement of this new expansion coincides with Shanghai Disney Resort being recognized as a "Global Iconic Tourist Destination." According to the Global Theme Entertainment Association’s 2024 Global Experience Report, released on October 23, 2025, Shanghai Disneyland welcomed 14.7 million visitors in 2024, setting a new record; in the "Top 25 Global Amusement and Theme Parks" rankings, Shanghai Disneyland continued to rank fifth worldwide in visitor numbers and remained number one in China.
