(Bandar Seri Begawan, 19th) The 15th Southeast Asian Chinese Teaching Symposium, organized by New Era University College, was successfully held in Kuala Lumpur from September 17th to 18th. The conference attracted educational representatives, experts, and scholars from Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and China, who gathered together to discuss the future development of regional Chinese education.
This symposium, themed “A New Start for Southeast Asian Chinese Education in the New Era,” focused on curriculum reform, teacher training, educational cooperation, and the application of artificial intelligence in teaching. The aim was to promote the development and exchange of Chinese teaching in Southeast Asia and to carry forward Chinese culture.
Mr. Xu Yuelan, Principal of Brunei Chung Hwa Middle School, was invited to deliver a keynote speech, sharing the current state and transformation direction of Brunei’s Chinese education. She proposed the concept of “staying rooted in culture while promoting teaching transformation,” and shared the school’s practices in differentiated instruction, home-school cooperation, and technology-assisted learning. She emphasized that the school will continue to explore a new model that values both humanities and technology, closely following international educational trends while upholding cultural heritage.
It is reported that this symposium not only strengthened regional educational exchanges but also injected new momentum into the development of Chinese education in Southeast Asia. On September 18th, the symposium officially announced its renaming as the "Southeast Asian Chinese Education Alliance," and representatives from each country co-signed a cooperation agreement to jointly promote regional Chinese education to a new stage.
