In Jianshan Village, Huxi Township, Penghu County, Taiwan, 8 underage children are suspected of being abandoned by their parents and are being raised by their adult siblings who are forced to work. All of them are squeezed into a 4-ping partition, forming a “children raising children” situation. The living environment inside is dirty and distressing, causing shock in society. On Sunday night, it was reported that the children's mother quietly returned home and posted a handwritten notice at the door to thank the public for their concern. She stated that she loves her children very much and asked the outside world to return their originally peaceful life.
The notice at the door reads: “I am the mother myself. Thank you to the public for your concern. I love my children very much. We have sufficient food. Please return to us our original peaceful life.”
In Jianshan Village, Huxi Township, Penghu County, a couple gave birth to 13 children in succession. However, the mother left home with money for 8 months and the father paid no attention, resulting in the just-adult siblings being forced to go out to work and take care of the remaining eight underage siblings.
The 8 children, suspected of being abandoned by their parents, live in harsh conditions in a 4-ping room. After their heartbreaking situation was exposed, it drew attention from all sectors; Penghu County Government pointed out that this case cannot be generally assessed by “overall family circumstances” but risk assessments for each child must be carried out separately. A safety and care plan will be followed up.
The Health Bureau also sent medical staff to check the children's health on the 9th. Among the 8 children, 2 were not at home. After assessment, the remaining 6 were found to be in good health.
