(Kuching, 25th) The proposed new Kuching International Airport will enhance Sarawak's appeal in business, investment and tourism.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari stated that in view of the urgent need to implement the new airport, the Sarawak government will fund the construction of the airport.
He said that the construction of the new airport would strengthen the role of the Sarawak airline after acquiring MasWings, connecting Sarawak to regional and international destinations.
“Although managing an airline is not an easy task, we have no choice but to invest in this new airline to achieve our goals with our own business model. If Sarawak wants to be a preferred destination for tourists and businessmen, relying on existing airlines to meet the demand is not feasible.”
In his Christmas message, Abang Johari said that this is a strategic asset that Sarawak hopes to develop and achieve within 5 to 10 years.
He acknowledged that this will take time but hopes it will help Sarawak achieve its aspiration of becoming a developed region.
“Undoubtedly, we must work harder to succeed and avoid being disrupted by factors that want us to lag behind. Now is the time for us, the people of Sarawak, to unite resolutely, show courage, and together decide our destiny.”
