(Bintulu, 9th) A timber transport truck driver tragically died after the vehicle lost control and caught fire completely during driving. The incident occurred at the fork leading to Medsum Trading Co., Ltd., near Samarakan, on Sunday afternoon.
According to information provided by his wife, the identity of the deceased is Kanang Inggai, a 57-year-old Iban man.
Preliminary investigations show that the victim was trapped in the truck cabin and was found burned to death.
According to a statement released by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sarawak State Operations Center (PGO), the fire department received an emergency call at 12:56 PM and dispatched a team from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to the scene, approximately 69 kilometers from the station.
The statement noted, "The Operations Team (PKO) arrived at the accident scene at 2:10 PM, having to travel 26 kilometers of timber transport road en route. Due to road conditions, FRT and EMRS fire vehicles were unable to enter, and team members were provided four-wheel-drive vehicles by the company to complete the passage."
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the truck's cabin completely burnt.
It is reported that on-site personnel used two fire extinguishers to control the fire before the arrival of firefighters.
"A male was trapped inside the truck cabin and was burned. Firefighters used simple tools and sticks to pry open the deformed metal parts and successfully removed the body at 2:49 PM," the statement added.
The victim's body was later handed over to the police for further investigation.
The fire department pointed out that this rescue operation faced many challenges, including unpaved roads, rugged terrain, and weak radio and mobile network signals, greatly increasing the difficulty of coordination.
This rescue operation was led by Operations Commander Mohd Syukri Abdullah, involving nine firefighters, an FRT fire truck, and an EMRS emergency vehicle.
The Sarawak State Operations Center expressed gratitude to the company for providing logistical support and early fire suppression assistance, and reminded all parties to be extra cautious when operating heavy vehicles, particularly in high-risk areas such as inland mountains, to reduce the occurrence of accidents.
