New Grand Duke of Luxembourg Ascends the Throne, European Royal Families Witness the Event

Luxembourg held a grand ceremony on the 3rd, as 43-year-old Guillaume officially succeeded his 70-year-old father, Grand Duke Henri, ending his father's 25-year reign.

Hundreds of guests, including royalty from many European countries, gathered together to witness the occasion.

The "Grand Duchy of Luxembourg" practices a constitutional monarchy. The head of state is the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, and it remains Europe's only grand duchy.

Wearing a green military dress uniform and a yellow sash, 43-year-old Guillaume was formally enthroned during a ceremony at the parliament. Henri, also in military dress, appeared emotional as he listened to Grand Duke Guillaume's enthronement speech.

According to the official protocol, after the enthronement ceremony ends, Guillaume will accompany Grand Duchess Stéphanie to meet the public in the old town of Luxembourg City. Earlier, in the presence of the Dutch and Belgian royal families, 70-year-old Henri officially signed the abdication document at the Grand Ducal Palace.

With a population of about 680,000, Luxembourg was filled with a festive atmosphere during this historic event, accompanied by performances from a military band and citizens enthusiastically waving red, white, and blue national flags.
