Malaysia and Vietnam held bilateral talks on Tuesday to discuss efforts to finalize the two countries' Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Action Plan during the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar stated that his meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also focused on expanding cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade, investment, electrical and electronics, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and the halal industry.

"In addition, the meeting also aims to strengthen cooperation in the green energy sector through wind and solar energy projects in collaboration between Gentari, a subsidiary of the national energy company, and Vietnam's national oil and gas group, Petrovietnam."

He said both sides also exchanged views on food security, cross-border crime, the South China Sea, Myanmar, and other regional and global issues, and are committed to maintaining regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

Meanwhile, European Council President Costa pointed out that in an increasingly multipolar global landscape, cooperation between regional blocs such as the EU and ASEAN is more important than ever.

He said a multipolar world requires multilateral cooperation, and closer political, economic, and people-to-people relations between the EU and ASEAN are key to achieving shared stability and prosperity.

He said during an appearance today (28th) on Bernama TV's program "The Nation": "As you know, the EU is a reliable, predictable, and trustworthy partner. I believe the 47th ASEAN Summit and the related summits are an excellent opportunity to showcase this."

He said strengthening engagement with ASEAN remains one of the EU's top priorities.

Costa also praised Malaysia's leadership and constructive role during its tenure as ASEAN's rotating chair this year, describing it as a major achievement.

He pointed out that as ASEAN chair, Malaysia played a pivotal role in mediating the conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, and mentioned Timor-Leste's achievement of joining as the 11th ASEAN member state.

"If we can enjoy peace today, we must thank Malaysia's mediation efforts."
