(Italy, 3rd) An avalanche occurred on a mountain peak in northern Italy on the 1st, resulting in the deaths of five German climbers.
At around 4 p.m. local time on the afternoon of the 1st, an avalanche struck the northern slope of Mount Vertaina in the Alps in South Tyrol, northern Italy. German tourists who were climbing the mountain were swept by the snow flow; three died at the scene and two went missing.
After an overnight search, rescuers found the bodies of the two missing persons in the avalanche area on the morning of the 2nd and confirmed that they were a father and daughter, with the daughter aged 17.
The local rescue department has reminded that recent rising temperatures in the area and unstable snow accumulation have led to higher risks for mountain activities. Climbing and skiing enthusiasts are urged to closely monitor snow conditions and weather warnings and to avoid high-risk areas.
