US President Trump recently sued the New York Times, publisher Penguin Random House, and two Times reporters for defamation, seeking $15 billion in damages (about 63.1 billion Ringgit). However, on the 19th, a federal judge refused to hear the case, but allowed Trump to revise and resubmit the complaint within 28 days.
The presiding judge, Federal District Court Judge Meredith of Florida, did not rule on the substance of the lawsuit against the Times, but expressed dissatisfaction with the complaint’s overly grandiose, repetitive, and excessively Trump-praising language, as well as its 85-page length.
Meredith stated, “The complaint is not a public forum for insults and attacks, nor is it a protected platform for venting anger against opponents.” The complaint must contain a clear and concise statement of the claim.
The complaint stated: "The New York Times has become one of the leading mainstream media outlets openly and unabashedly spreading false information about President Trump."
Neither President Trump nor his lawyers responded to the ruling. The New York Times said in a statement that Trump's case was “baseless.”
