(Miri, 28th) Member of Parliament for Miri and National Vice Youth Chief of PKR (AMK) Chiew Choon Man issued a statement expressing deep condolences over the passing of Sarawak indigenous leader, the late Dennis Along, describing his death as a major loss to the grassroots justice movement in both the Baram region and all of Sarawak.

He stated that Dennis Along was a highly respected people's activist, not only having a broad influence within the indigenous community of Baram but also being one of the symbols in Sarawak for the pursuit of justice and fairness.

“Dennis was not just an ordinary political figure; he was a symbol of courage, determination, and the spirit of honest struggle. His passing is a tremendous loss for all of us who strive for justice.”

Chiew Choon Man pointed out that the late Dennis Along was known in Baram as the “voice of the people,” who courageously spoke out for a long time and uncompromisingly defended the traditional land rights of the indigenous people and basic rights in remote rural areas. He was outspoken and unafraid to challenge injustice, showing the true character of a fighter.

“Whether during his time in the opposition or now as part of the ruling coalition, Dennis always upheld the people’s position without wavering. He was a true idealist, not swayed by changes in political power.”

What moved him even more was that Dennis’s family fully supported and participated in his struggle. The whole family upholds the faith of ‘Justice’, quietly contributing without asking for anything in return, standing at the forefront to fight for a fair future for the next generation.

Chiew Choon Man said Dennis Along’s perseverance and courage deeply inspired the younger generation within the party, proving that the core of political struggle is not about power but for the people’s rights.

> “Today we have lost a warrior, but his spirit will not end here. We must take up the torch and continue his legacy — to strive for a more just Sarawak, free from oppression, and truly respecting the rights of its people.”

Finally, Chiew Choon Man extended his deepest condolences to Dennis Along’s family and expressed that the contributions of this people's hero will always be remembered.

“Dennis is gone, but his struggle continues. Rest in peace, brother. We will not forget your dedication. Your fight, we will carry on.”
