(Miri, 10th) Sarawak's Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, calls on citizens to increase environmental awareness and work together to maintain the cleanliness of Miri, ensuring that the urban environment is not damaged by the irresponsible actions of individuals.
Today, he held a press conference on the fourth floor of the Miri Islamic Building, announcing government funding to address erosion issues at Lutong Beach. At the same time, he also focused on Miri's waste management issues, urging the public to maintain environmental cleanliness together.
Lee Kim Shin pointed out that, following a recent flood, a large amount of accumulated waste has affected the cityscape and public health. With the combined efforts of the government, businesses, and the public in cleaning up, Miri City has been restored to cleanliness within a week, but some people continue to litter indiscriminately after the cleanup, causing environmental problems again.
Therefore, he urged the city council to strengthen law enforcement, install CCTV monitoring, and set up large garbage collection bins in suitable locations, particularly in rural areas such as Tudan, to improve the waste management system.
