A pair of male and female netizens in Hong Kong met on the 28th at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel’s Chinese restaurant in Central. However, the 31-year-old woman claims that after the man opened a bottle of wine, he left on the pretext of going to the restroom, forcing her to pay the bill herself amounting to 80,000 HKD (about 43,350 ringgit). Suspecting she was scammed, the woman reported the incident to the police on the 29th. Police arrested a 23-year-old local man surnamed Wong, who is currently in custody for investigation.
According to Hong Kong media reports, the police arrested the man on the evening of the 29th for “obtaining property by deception” and seized the clothes suspected to have been worn by the suspect during the incident. Reports indicate that the woman met a man via Telegram who claimed to be surnamed Chan and about 26 to 27 years old, but police investigations led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man surnamed Wong.
It is reported that a few years ago, the suspect also used a false identity to meet two female netizens online, whom he later lured to hotels and forced into sexual intercourse under various pretexts. He was eventually convicted of “obtaining unlawful sexual acts by threats” and sentenced to imprisonment.
Images circulating online purportedly show the dinner receipt, indicating the pair ordered a premium set meal worth nearly 5,000 HKD, including top-quality braised bird’s nest, whole abalone, spotted grouper fillet, and wagyu beef cubes. They also opened a bottle of premier French champagne priced at over 71,800 HKD (about 38,900 ringgit).
This bottle of champagne was a 2002 Krug Clos d’Ambonnay. According to records, Clos d’Ambonnay covers 0.68 hectares and is located in the center of Ambonnay, one of the most renowned Pinot Noir-growing villages in the Champagne region. The Pinot Noir grapes used to make the 2002 Krug Clos d’Ambonnay were harvested on September 21 of that year, producing a total of 4,743 bottles, each individually numbered.
