KOTA KINABALU, Dec 6 -- The Sabah Forestry Department (JPS) today denied allegations of illegal logging activities in the state as reported in two recent articles.
In a statement here today, JPS informed that the article had mistakenly quoted a press release issued by the department.
"This is an irresponsible action with malicious intent. The Sabah Forestry Department will file a police report," the statement said.
The articles titled 'Illegal Logging In Sabah' published on December 1 and “Sabah Forestry Admits Log Extraction and Export – Says Timber is Disease Ridden” on December 3 by Sarawak Report.
Regarding the claims in the first article that logs were extracted without the proper payment, it is incorrect.
On the issue of the Ceratocystis disease outbreak, coordination with Yayasan Sabah has been implemented to contain and eliminate the threat posed by the disease.
The issue has also been discussed in the State Legislative Assembly Conference last month.
