Former Top Official in Mining Accident Site, Former Changzhi, Shanxi Vice Mayor Wang Yusheng Falls from Power

Wang Yusheng, former member of the Standing Committee of the Changzhi Municipal Committee and former Vice Mayor of the Changzhi Municipal Government in Shanxi Province, was officially announced to have fallen from power on Saturday (June 27). Wang Yusheng previously served as the Party Secretary of Qinyuan County, where just a month ago a coal mine explosion claimed 82 lives and several individuals have already been investigated.


The Shanxi Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision announced Wang Yusheng's fall from power on Saturday, citing his suspected serious violations of discipline and law. He is currently under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation.


According to public information, the 69-year-old Wang Yusheng is from the suburban district of Changzhi City, holds a master's degree as an in-service graduate, and has held posts such as Party Secretary of Qinyuan County, Standing Committee Member of the Changzhi Municipal Party Committee, Minister of Publicity, Vice Mayor of Changzhi Municipal Government, and Member of Party Leadership Group.

On the evening of May 22 this year, at 7:29 p.m., a gas explosion occurred at the Liushenyu Coal Mine of Tongzhou Group, located in Qinyuan, Shanxi. There were 247 people underground at the time. As of 10 p.m. on May 23, the accident had resulted in 82 deaths, two people missing, 128 people sent to hospital for treatment, and 35 people returned home on their own.


After the coal mine explosion, several officials in Shanxi have recently been investigated.

On the evening of June 24, the Shanxi Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision announced that Li Dingfu, former Party Secretary of Qinyuan County in Changzhi City, was suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, voluntarily surrendered, and is currently under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation. Prior to this, Zhao Yongjin, then Party Secretary of Qinyuan County, Changzhi City, was announced to have fallen from power on June 2.


Sun Xiaoye, Party Secretary of the Emergency Management Bureau of Qinyuan County, Director, and Head of the Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Team for Emergency Management; Yue Xiaodong, Member of the Party Committee of the Qinyuan County Emergency Management Bureau and Deputy Captain (in charge of daily work) of the Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Team for Emergency Management; and Zhang Qian, Captain of the First Enforcement Team of the Qinyuan County Emergency Management Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Team, were also officially announced to be under disciplinary review and supervisory investigation for suspected serious violations of discipline and law.


Due to involvement in the Liushenyu Coal Mine incident, Zhang Heping, Deputy Director of the Shanxi Provincial Emergency Management Department, was also officially announced to have fallen from power on June 10.
