Walking Together Through Wind and Rain to Welcome the New Year: Sarawak's Countdown Event Held in the Rain

(Kuching, 1st) The 2025 New Year countdown celebration was held last night at the Kuching Waterfront Park in Sarawak. Despite the heavy rain, it did not deter thousands of visitors from participating in the lively event.

Sarawak's Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi also attended the celebration, enjoying the event with the people.

Other attendees included Sarawak's Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari.

The countdown celebration was jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts of Sarawak and the Sarawak Arts Council, attracting over 20,000 visitors from various parts of Sarawak.

The evening featured various fun activities, including booths selling goods and food. 

The official segment began with a captivating performance by the Sarawak Arts Council's Permata Seni orchestra, followed by impressive dance performances by I-Cats Performing Arts, Youngstersz, and Kinate Dance Group, who dazzled with their choreography and colorful costumes. 

Additionally, performances by famous artists, including Hetty Koes Endang, Zee Avi, Akim & The Majistret, and other local and international artists, entertained the audience.

The highlight of the event was the fireworks display, illuminating the night sky with brilliance and enthusiasm to welcome the new year.

This celebration also demonstrated the unity of the people of Sarawak during important occasions, strengthening the bonds of harmony within the state.

Accompanying attendees included Sarawak's Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian and spouse, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts of Sarawak Datuk Seri Abdul Karim and spouse, Sarawak's Government Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar and spouse, Sarawak's Deputy Government Secretary (Administration) Datuk Buckland Bangik and other guests.
