The 4th Session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened on the afternoon of the 4th at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, with Chairman Wang Huning delivering a work report. Wang Huning mentioned that the CPPCC held the 8th "Cross-Strait Grassroots Governance Forum" in 2025 and that this year, the commemoration of the 160th anniversary of Mr. Sun Yat-sen’s birth should be well organized.
The opening ceremony of the CPPCC was held on the afternoon of the 4th, attended by General Secretary Xi Jinping and other party and government leaders. Wang Huning stated that 2025 is a year of important significance in the process of “Chinese-style modernization.” The “14th Five-Year Plan” will be successfully concluded, while China’s economic strength, scientific and technological power, national defense capabilities, and comprehensive national strength will “rise to a new level,” and Chinese-style modernization will make “solid new strides.”
He said that the 4th Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee has outlined the development blueprint for the “15th Five-Year Plan” (2026 to 2030). The commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War will “invigorate the national spirit, inspire patriotic enthusiasm, and consolidate the strength for striving.”
In reviewing the CPPCC’s work in 2025, Wang Huning mentioned that the CPPCC held the 8th "Cross-Strait Grassroots Governance Forum"; invited 242 Hong Kong and Macao members and overseas representatives to participate in the “80th Anniversary Congress of the Victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War” and to observe the military parade.
In discussing the main tasks for 2026, he stated that 2026 is the first year of the “15th Five-Year Plan.” It is necessary to unswervingly uphold the leadership of the Communist Party of China and maintain the correct political direction. Efforts should be made to integrate the Party's innovative theories into daily work and regular activities, to enhance the effectiveness of ideological and political guidance and broadly build consensus. The 160th anniversary commemoration of Mr. Sun Yat-sen’s birth should be well organized. Around the implementation of the “15th Five-Year Plan,” deliberation and consultation should be strengthened, and high-quality performance of duties should serve the CPC and the state's central tasks.
The 4th Session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee opened at 3 p.m. on the afternoon of the 4th at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and will close on the 11th, spanning seven days. On the day of the opening ceremony, 2,125 committee members were supposed to attend, and 2,078 were actually present.
