On the 28th, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak in Yuxi, Yunnan, saying that as a friendly neighbor, China is the last to wish to see Thailand and Cambodia at war, and the most eager to see the two countries reconcile.
Sihasak and Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, at Wang Yi's invitation, held talks in Yunnan on the 28th and 29th, also attended by representatives of the two countries' militaries.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs' official website, on the 28th Wang Yi told Sihasak that with joint efforts from all sides, the Thai and Cambodian militaries have reached a ceasefire agreement and taken the first step towards peace, which China is pleased to see.
He emphasized that China's efforts to promote peace and dialogue are never imposed on others, nor does it overstep its bounds; the aim is to provide a relaxed platform for dialogue, allowing the parties concerned to engage in in-depth communication and resolve differences through dialogue. Wang expressed confidence that as long as Thailand and Cambodia communicate as equals and move forward together, there is no obstacle they cannot overcome.
After the meeting, Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs published on its official website that Thailand appreciates China's role and understanding in supporting Thailand and Cambodia to achieve peace through Asian approaches.
On the same day in Yuxi, Yunnan, Wang Yi also met with Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn. Wang Yi said that Cambodia and Thailand can make good use of this opportunity for face-to-face dialogue between diplomatic and military representatives to communicate in a flexible manner, deepen understanding, and build mutual trust.
Prak Sokhonn said that China's continued support for settling Cambodia-Thailand disputes through dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual respect plays a crucial role in promoting comprehensive and effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement, thereby realizing fair and lasting peace.
