Man’s Soup-Forcing Death of Wife Case Delayed Again; Victim’s Family Desperately Awaits Death Sentence

The shocking "man forcing soup, causing wife's death" case in Baishui, Shaanxi Province, China has announced another postponement. On the night of the 11th, Wu, the younger brother of the victim Ms. Wu Mouli, said his mother recently received a court notice stating that with approval from the Supreme People's Court, the trial has once again been postponed for another three months. It is understood that this is already the second postponement; after the first trial hearing in February 2025, the first extension was due to the "complexity of the case."

Mr. Wu, the deceased’s brother who attended the trial, stated that when his mother first saw her son-in-law and perpetrator Li Mouchun in court, she was extremely agitated and fainted, later receiving medical treatment. The entire family is hoping for a death penalty verdict. Regarding what happened in the noodle shop in the early morning of the incident, Li testified in court that he blacked out after drinking and could not remember some of his actions; he claimed some were meant just to scare his wife, "never imagined it would lead to her death."

In court, Li denied prolonged domestic violence: "he said that he got along well with my sister before the incident." Ultimately, during the hearing, Li pleaded guilty and accepted punishment, expressing remorse and apologizing, "he said sorry to his parents, wife, and child, and added that if the court decides to sentence him to death, he’ll accept it, saying it doesn’t matter to him."

According to previous Chinese media reports, the indictment states that, in the early hours of September 4, 2024, the defendant Li Mouchun, after drinking, got into an argument with his wife Wu Mouli over relationship issues in the west bedroom of their "Zanjin Noodle Shop" in Dukang Town, Baishui County.

After beating Wu Mouli in the bedroom, Li Mouchun poured noodle soup over her, causing multiple injuries. Autopsy determined that Wu Mouli died from accidental inhalation of noodle soup blocking her airways. The indictment states that Li was criminally detained by Baishui County Public Security on September 5, 2024, on suspicion of intentional injury, then formally arrested on September 14, 2024, on suspicion of intentional homicide. There were circumstances of voluntary surrender.

According to details disclosed in multiple media reports, Li Mouchun initially used a steel ruler, belt, and knife to beat Wu Mouli, later boiled a pot of noodle soup and poured it over her, then forced her head into the boiling pot.
