Eric Tsang’s BB CALL Venture Almost Became Asia’s First – Refused Li Ka-shing’s Acquisition and Faced Downfall

Variety king Jacky Wu's YouTube channel "Next Please" recently filmed an outdoor episode in Hong Kong, inviting Eric Tsang as the local guide. He fully demonstrated his hospitality, taking Jacky Wu on an in-depth tour and experiencing the unique lifestyle of the fishing village residents.

The two enjoyed the harbor scenery as they reminisced about the past. Upon seeing the harbor, Eric Tsang recalled a time he filmed a night scene at the harbor that involved being wrapped up in a burlap sack and thrown into the sea. In order to keep things authentic, Eric insisted on doing the stunt himself instead of using a double. He thought he was already making a big sacrifice, but to his surprise, the director asked him not to surface too quickly while he was in the water. He drifted with the current, not knowing where he was, and admitted filming that scene was genuinely nerve-wracking.

Eric Tsang then pulled out his list of must-visit places and brought Jacky Wu to a very famous restaurant in Hong Kong for a great meal. They enjoyed many traditional Tanka dishes, each with its own story, letting Jacky Wu savor the local flavors and cultural vibe with every bite.

In the early days, Eric Tsang tried to start his own internet business with BB Call. He originally had the opportunity to become the first in all of Asia, holding big aspirations for the venture. He even turned down entrepreneur Li Ka-shing’s acquisition offer. But unexpectedly, Li Ka-shing’s team developed a model much lighter and more portable, monopolizing the market and costing Eric his chance. Thinking back, Eric Tsang still finds it a real pity, but jokingly sums it up: "Don’t try to compete with rich people." Quite amusing.
