(Bandar Seri Begawan, 10th) The National Road Safety Council (MKKJR) and the Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation (BDCF) have recently collaborated to launch the 'Dedicated Cycling Lane Every Wednesday Night' pilot project, aimed at continuously enhancing road safety.
This project provides alternative routes for cycling activities in the Brunei-Muara District, covering Jalan Perdana Menteri, Jalan Ong Sum Ping, Jalan Kebangsaan, and Jalan Dato Ratna. These routes will be designated as exclusive cycling lanes every Wednesday evening from 8 PM to midnight.
The pilot project seeks to assess the suitability and effectiveness of providing safe cycling routes in Brunei by sharing roads with other users. The planned alternative cycling routes for the city area will be announced at a later date, while the routes in other districts will be open to the public starting from March 28, 2026.
The relevant authorities welcome the public to use these routes, believing it is a result of joint efforts to improve road safety and traffic flow. At the same time, the National Road Safety Council urges all road users to remain vigilant at all times, comply with traffic regulations, and respect all recommendations and safety measures. Road safety is a shared responsibility that requires cooperation, self-discipline, and attention from all parties.
The concept of 'shared roads' emphasizes the importance of mutual respect among road users, thus helping to create a safe, orderly, and harmonious road environment.
