AirBorneo Temporarily Adjusts Flight Schedules; Around 4,000 Passengers May Be Affected

(Kuching, 17th) In order to enhance fleet reliability and improve on-time flight performance, AirBorneo Airways will implement temporary flight schedule adjustments on certain routes from July 6 to October 24, 2026, with an estimated 4,000 passengers’ travel plans expected to be affected.

The airline stated that this temporary adjustment is due to the grounding of some aircraft in its ATR72 and DHC-6 Twin Otter fleets because of technical issues. The main causes are sudden maintenance needs and the ongoing global supply chain constraints, which have led to delays in the supply of critical aircraft components and spare parts.

AirBorneo pointed out that such situations are currently common challenges faced by the global aviation industry. The company is working closely with its engineering and maintenance partners as well as the respective aircraft original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to speed up repairs and return the affected aircraft to service as soon as possible.

The company issued a statement yesterday: “Rather than continuing to experience temporary and unpredictable flight cancellations, AirBorneo has chosen to proactively and transparently adjust its published flight schedules.”

“This move enables confirmed new flight arrangements to be made in advance for passengers on affected routes, allowing them to better plan their journeys, while also helping the airline to allocate aircraft more effectively according to current capacity and free up time for necessary maintenance.”

AirBorneo emphasized that this adjustment only involves a small number of designated routes; all existing destinations will continue to be served, with no suspension or cancellation of any destination services.

During the adjustment period: approximately 594 flights will be adjusted; affected passengers will be rebooked onto the next available flight, which may depart on the same day or the following day; in addition, about 1,337 flights are expected to have their departure or arrival times retimed.

The airline stated that all affected passengers will be properly accommodated according to the Malaysia Aviation Consumer Protection Code (MACPC), including: free flight rebooking; refund applications; and other applicable passenger support measures.

Additionally, AirBorneo confirmed that flight ticket prices on affected routes will not be increased during this temporary adjustment period.

The company added that the entire adjustment process has been reported to the Ministry of Transport Malaysia and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), and a formal proposal for temporary schedule adjustments has been submitted.

AirBorneo stressed that this measure is only temporary, and the company will continue to push forward its long-term fleet renewal plan.

According to the renewal plan, AirBorneo will gradually introduce next-generation: ATR72-600 passenger aircraft; ATR42-600 passenger aircraft from Q3 2027 to Q3 2029.

The new fleet is expected to bring: greater fleet reliability; stronger operational resilience; and a higher quality passenger flight experience.

AirBorneo stated that the fleet modernization program is an important strategy to strengthen regional aviation connectivity and will also support the long-term development needs of the communities it serves.
