Namewee, the local singer implicated in the Taiwanese female influencer murder case, was released on police bail on Thursday (13th). However, as of 10am Thursday morning, the media had still not seen his presence.

A large group of media had gathered early outside the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters, awaiting further updates.

It is understood that Namewee had previously had his remand extended twice to assist police investigations.

Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusruki stated on Wednesday (12th) that, after reviewing the investigation report, the authorities currently have no evidence showing that Namewee was involved in last month’s Taiwanese female influencer murder case.

He said that police have been instructed to continue conducting in-depth investigations into this case.

In an interview with a Third Channel news broadcast, he said: “If new evidence emerges in the subsequent investigation, the prosecutor’s office will take appropriate action.”

Earlier, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil revealed that the police had completed the investigation report and handed it over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office for review on Wednesday.

Namewee was remanded for six days starting from last Wednesday (5th), after which his detention was extended for another three days until Thursday to assist police investigations.

According to earlier media reports, Taiwanese influencer Xie Youxin was found dead in the bathtub of a hotel room in Kuala Lumpur on October 22. Police investigations showed that Namewee was the last person seen with Xie Youxin.

The case was initially classified as a “sudden death”. However, due to new leads, the police later launched a murder investigation.

In addition, Namewee was also charged in the Kuala Lumpur court on October 24 for allegedly possessing and abusing drugs, but he denied all charges in court.
