Chinese freestyle skier Eileen Gu posted on Saturday (August 16) that she suffered an unexpected injury due to a human accident, underwent medical imaging examination that day, and described the incident as extremely frightening.
On Weibo, Eileen Gu wrote that after being injured for several months, she was skiing for the first time in New Zealand. During the previous days, her training on the snow had been going very smoothly, but "yesterday (August 15), a very frightening accident occurred due to human error. Early this morning, we flew to Christchurch for a medical imaging examination. I hope I can get back on the snow soon, but I'm still waiting for a final confirmation from my expert team."
Eileen Gu also expressed hope that the public would understand she needs to be fully focused during training, "Especially when I am about to set off from the top of the park, being interrupted is extremely dangerous. On the chairlift, I also need to concentrate on visualizing and thinking about my moves. To save every minute, I skip lunch and try to minimize bathroom breaks. So I ask everyone not to take photos or videos with me while I am training."
According to Xinhua News Agency, numerous photos circulating on the Internet show that several skiers have taken pictures with Eileen Gu at her training site in New Zealand. On Friday (15th), a skier posted a photo of Eileen Gu being carried off the slopes on a stretcher by resort rescue personnel.
During the 2024-2025 season, Eileen Gu has suffered multiple injuries and was forced to withdraw from the Harbin Asian Winter Games. After months of rehabilitation, she returned to the slopes and traveled to New Zealand for off-season on-snow training as she prepares for the upcoming 2026 Milan Winter Olympics.
