In the women's freestyle skiing big air qualification at the Milan Winter Olympics, defending champion and Chinese athlete Gu Ailing, along with her teammate Liu Mengting, secured spots in the final, while another Chinese athlete, Yang Ruyi, failed to advance.
According to Xinhua News Agency, the qualification round was held on Saturday, February 14 local time. Gu Ailing was the first to compete. In her first round, group A trick, she did a right-side takeoff 1440 with a grab, landed successfully, and scored 86.00 points. For her second jump, she attempted a group B trick, left-side takeoff 1080 with a grab, but fell on landing and received only 20.75 points. In the third round, she repeated her trick from the second round, completed it smoothly, and scored 84.75 points.
According to the rules, among the three jumps in the qualifiers, the total of the best two jumps with different takeoff directions is counted, and the top 12 athletes advance to the final. In the end, Gu Ailing ranked second with a total score of 170.75 points, while Liu Mengting ranked ninth with 160.00 points—both successfully advancing. Canadian athlete Oldham qualified in first place.
