Colombia Holds Three Days of National Mourning for Earthquake Victims

The Colombian government announced on the 12th that the entire country would observe three days of national mourning to commemorate the victims of the earthquake.

During the national mourning period, all public buildings in Colombia and its embassies and consulates abroad will fly flags at half-mast to mourn the victims and express condolences and support to the families of those affected.

Meanwhile, Colombian President de la Espriella stated that the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that occurred on the 10th has resulted in 265 people dead, 3,494 injured, 496 missing, and over 53,000 affected.

At a press conference held in Bogotá, he said that in order to cope with the earthquake disaster, it is necessary to declare a national state of economic emergency. This measure will allow the president to make some special decisions, but will not include new taxes.
