(City of Brunei, 16th) The Russian Embassy in Brunei hosted a reception on the 14th at the Katong Rizqun International Hotel to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War (1941–1945) victory.
This event aims to pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice demonstrated by the Soviet people in defeating Nazism and liberating Europe and the rest of the world from the threat of fascism.
Attendees included senior officials from Brunei's Ministry of Defense, Senior Ministers' Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as diplomats from various countries, cultural and academic representatives, and local media personnel.
In his speech, Russian Ambassador to Brunei, Mikhail Baranov, emphasized the historical significance of this victory and its enormous sacrifices—over 27 million Soviet people perished in the war.
"We must always remember the lessons of history and resolutely oppose any actions that distort or falsify historical facts for political purposes," he pointed out.
"At a time when the international security system faces multiple challenges, it is more important than ever to defend the legacy of this victory and uphold the values of peace, justice, and international cooperation."
As part of the commemoration, the embassy held a "Immortal Regiment" themed exhibit, showcasing photographs and brief biographies of embassy staff's family members who participated in the Great Patriotic War to honor their personal heroism.
A special documentary on the history of the Great Patriotic War was also screened at the event to help attendees gain a deeper understanding of the war's background and significance.
Local musicians performed several wartime songs, evoking memories with heartfelt singing and demonstrating the power of music as a bridge across generations and cultures.
Guests also toured a themed photo exhibition that displayed key moments of the war and the significant contributions the Soviet Union made to the Allies' victory.
The Russian Embassy in Brunei expressed heartfelt gratitude to all guests for their participation and support, stating that the spirit of unity and courage embodied in the great victory will continue to inspire countries to work together to build a peaceful and just world.
