Recently, a doctor in Yunnan stated on a short video platform that he treated a 10-month-old baby boy who had needle marks all over his body, with a broken needle lodged in his cervical vertebrae, attracting widespread attention. The Kunming Municipal Health Commission said that the police have intervened for investigation; multiple departments in Mojiang County are verifying the case.

According to Huashang News and Da Feng News, Dr. Sui from the Spine Surgery Department of Xinhua Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, recounted in a video posted on January 14 that he treated a 10-month-old baby boy who possibly had 500 to 600 needle marks all over his body. This particular hospital visit was triggered when the mother inserted a needle into the boy’s neck; the needle broke off, leaving the broken piece inside the cervical vertebrae, posing a dire emergency that required surgery to remove it.

● Used Needles to Draw Blood if He Was Naughty

Dr. Sui said that all the medical staff who participated in the consultation were extremely shocked. A 10-month-old child does not have a large surface area, yet the body was covered in needle marks. He revealed that, upon inquiry, the boy's mother was found to have some mental abnormalities. When caring for her child alone at home, whenever he was disobedient, she would prick him with a shoemaker’s needle, claiming she was performing bloodletting.

Dr. Sui said that on the day of the consultation, he successfully performed surgery to remove the needle from the baby boy. Three or four days after surgery, the boy was in very stable condition and had already been transferred out of the ICU. The police have been notified, and further investigation is ongoing.

According to online reports, the incident took place between late December 2025 and early January 2026. At the time, Dr. Sui was seeing patients at the Qianxing Campus of Kunming Children's Hospital. Some netizens stated they reported the case to Kunming police, who said that the case had been transferred to the Public Security Bureau of Mojiang County, Pu'er City.

● Multiple Parties Respond

The Kunming Municipal Health Commission responded that Dr. Sui did indeed practice at Kunming Children's Hospital recently and handled this particular case, and that the police are currently investigating. Currently, the Xishan Branch of the Kunming Public Security Bureau is handling the matter.

Regarding netizens' claims that the case had been handed over to the Mojiang County Public Security Bureau, reports indicate that staff there confirmed receipt of relevant information and immediately launched a verification. After the review is complete, they will release an official statement. Regarding the possibility of the child’s mother having mental health issues, the staff stated that an assessment is underway, and a psychiatric evaluation will serve as the basis for any conclusions. As for the Civil Affairs Bureau of Mojiang County, staff said that verification work began on January 19 and is still ongoing; no further comments can be provided at this time.

According to Red Star News, the Women’s Federation of Mojiang County responded that they have intervened, the child is receiving treatment at the hospital, and his mother has also been hospitalized.
