(Kuching, 10th) The discussion on the construction method of the 1-gigawatt (MW) subsea power transmission project from Sarawak to Singapore is expected to be completed in the first quarter of this year.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari stated that after the discussion, Malaysia and Singapore will reach a conditional agreement.
“We are still discussing the construction method of the cable. I expect these discussions to be completed in the first quarter of this year, after which Malaysia and Singapore may sign an agreement.”
Premier Abang Johari said this to reporters after delivering a public lecture at the Yusof Ishak Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore today.
According to him, this matter was also discussed at a bilateral meeting chaired by our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar and Singapore's Prime Minister Hsien Loong.
He mentioned that since there are only three such subsea cables globally, the installation of the subsea cable involves several technical aspects such as procurement and deployment.
The project is expected to be a key step in regional energy cooperation while strengthening Sarawak's position as a green energy supplier.
