(Israel, 19th) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he will participate in the November 2026 elections, and expects to win.
According to AFP reports, on Saturday (October 18), Netanyahu was interviewed by the right-wing media 'Channel 14,' and when asked if he intended to run for another term, he replied: 'Yes.' When further questioned if he believed he would win, he said: 'Yes.'
As the leader of Israel’s main right-wing party, the Likud Party, Netanyahu has served as prime minister multiple times since 1996, with a cumulative tenure of over 18 years—setting the record for the longest-serving prime minister in Israeli history.
In the last election, the Likud Party led by him won 32 seats in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset; his ultra-Orthodox allies took 18 seats; the Religious Zionism alliance won 14 seats, giving the far-right camp a record-setting performance.
However, his current term began with a highly controversial judicial reform plan, which sparked months of mass protests, with tens of thousands of Israelis taking to the streets almost daily at the time.
Since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, Netanyahu has faced constant criticism from the families of hostages over his wartime response.
