The Ministry of Defense confirmed that on Thursday (11th), two soldiers from the Malaysian peacekeeping contingent (MALBATT) Battalion 850-13 sustained minor injuries during an airstrike near Haris, Lebanon.

Defense Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin stated last night that the incident occurred at 9:25 a.m. local time, about 1 kilometer west of the United Nations 6-43 Base (UNP) in Tibnin.

“At that time, the logistics convoy of our peacekeeping troops was carrying out a routine supply delivery mission to Tyre when it was unfortunately affected by the airstrike. Two personnel were injured by shattered glass from the vehicle’s windows, but thankfully, the injuries were minor. Additionally, two vehicles belonging to the UN forces were also damaged.”

“After the incident, our peacekeeping contingent's Quick Reaction Force (QRF) stationed at the base immediately went to the scene to provide medical and logistical support, as well as repair the vehicles so they could return to base.”

The Minister also said: “The Quick Reaction Force only arranged for the convoy to return to base after assessing the safety at the site and checking the condition of the vehicles and personnel. Currently, the two injured members have received treatment, their condition is stable, and their families have been notified to assure them of their safety. There were no serious casualties in this incident.”

Khaled Nordin stated that in order to enhance safety measures, the Malaysian peacekeeping forces have heightened their alert status to safeguard the transport teams, improved coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and are comprehensively assessing the risk situation in their operation area.
