Recently, a netizen in Shanghai, China went to the McDonald's at the intersection of Siping Road and Liyang Road late at night, and discovered that quite a few people had taken off their shoes and were lying down asleep in the seating area. This prompted him to complain, “McDonald's has really been ruined,” “As soon as you open the door there's a wave of foot odor,” and “You can even smell it while eating.”
After the incident came to light, the store said they had called the police, but authorities said they could only advise these people and had no authority to directly remove them.
The incident happened on the night of the 7th. A netizen walked into McDonald's planning to get a late-night snack, but as soon as he opened the door he was hit with a strong smell of feet. Only then did he notice dozens of customers lying down asleep in the seating area, some with bare feet on the chairs. “Many homeless people can spend a night with air conditioning here, which is actually nice, but these people shouldn't affect other regular diners... People can smell it while they eat, but the restaurant can't just kick people out either.”
In response, many netizens left comments such as, “If no one cares, it will only get worse,” “Those who take advantage without respecting the store really have no morals,” “Just turn off the air conditioning,” “Lying down is too much,” “At least ban taking off shoes,” “No wonder many fast food places don’t open late at night anymore,” “You could put up a gentle reminder sign and politely remind those who don't behave (like snoring, taking off shoes, not putting feet on the chair, etc.), after all, even mall massage chairs keep reminding users repeatedly,” and “Don’t morally force restaurants or customers to accept these situations, okay?”
According to Xiangyang Video, the store has already reported the matter to the police. Police said they could only advise, not directly remove people. Store employees have also been communicating with them in an attempt to maintain order and hygiene in the store, and will look for more ways to advise them in the future.
