Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz issued a joint statement on the 24th, saying that after consultations with members of the security cabinet and security officials, the two have instructed the Israel Defense Forces to take a series of measures, including deploying additional troops throughout the Palestinian West Bank.
The statement pointed out that the relevant measures include increasing troop deployments throughout the West Bank, taking strong actions in villages considered by the Israeli side to be "centers of terrorist activity," and setting up checkpoints, among others.
The Israel Defense Forces also released a statement on the 24th, stating that a violent incident occurred that day in a northern West Bank town, triggered "when Palestinians attacked Israelis hiking in the area." The attacker seized a weapon from one of the Israelis and opened fire on them.
According to Israeli media reports, the incident resulted in the deaths of four Palestinians and two Israelis.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health issued a statement on the same day, saying that Israeli settlers shot dead four Palestinians and wounded four others in the village of Tell, near the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
Later on the evening of the 24th, the Israeli military released another statement, saying that IDF Chief of Staff Zamir described the incident that took place that day in the northern West Bank as a "serious terrorist attack," and ordered a large-scale deployment of additional forces to track down all individuals involved in the attack.
However, according to The Times of Israel, based on the military's preliminary investigation, dozens of Israelis entered the area near the village of Tell on the morning of the incident without military coordination, leading to a clash with local Palestinians. They had entered West Bank Areas A and B under the pretext of "hiking," even though these areas are typically off-limits to Israeli citizens.
According to the Oslo Accords signed by Israel and Palestine in 1993, the West Bank is divided into Areas A, B, and C, with Area A under Palestinian control, Area B under joint Israeli-Palestinian control, and Area C under Israeli control.
