US House of Representatives Passes Temporary Spending Bill, Awaiting Trump’s Signature to End Federal Government 'Shutdown'

On the evening of the 12th local time, the US House of Representatives officially passed a temporary federal government spending bill, which is expected to be sent to President Trump for signature soon, thereby ending the record-setting 43-day US federal government 'shutdown'.

The US Senate had already passed the relevant temporary spending bill on the 10th.

In any case, restarting federal government agencies could take several days, and in some cases, it may take a week or even longer to fully resume normal operations.

According to Bloomberg, payroll systems need to be updated to issue back pay for wages missed during the shutdown. Grant disbursements, loan applications, and customer service backlogs—stalled for as long as 43 days—also need to be processed as soon as possible. Delayed environmental permits, workplace inspections, and government contract approvals have piled up across various federal agencies.
