On the 19th, U.S. President Trump stated that the U.S. will help Ukraine with its defense, but will not send ground troops to Ukraine. "This, I can guarantee," he said.
He stated: "We are willing to help them, especially very likely with what you mentioned regarding airlift."
In an interview with Fox News, he also reiterated that Ukraine would not be allowed to join NATO.
He said that some European countries have already agreed to provide Ukraine with protective measures similar to what NATO can offer, including "security guarantees."
He pointed out that European countries "are willing to send ground troops" to ensure any resolution.
He said: "Countries such as France, Germany, and the United Kingdom all want to send ground troops."
Additionally, Trump pointed out that before a trilateral meeting between the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine can be realized, he hopes the Russian and Ukrainian leaders will first hold a bilateral meeting.
He believes it would be best for Russia and Ukraine to improve their relationship first, otherwise it would not be convenient to arrange a trilateral meeting before a bilateral one has taken place.
He admitted that he initially thought the Russia-Ukraine conflict would be relatively easy to resolve, but in reality it has proven to be the most difficult conflict to resolve.
