After US forces launched a surprise operation in Venezuela and swiftly captured Venezuelan President Maduro, some on the internet have expressed concerns that mainland China might attempt to replicate such a “decapitation” action in the Taiwan Strait. In response, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense stated that it is prepared for all kinds of unexpected situations.

According to reports from Taiwanese media, Deputy Minister of National Defense Hsu Shih-chien was asked on the 5th how he views the US “decapitation” operation in Venezuela, and whether the public believes it could be replicated in the Taiwan Strait.

Hsu Shih-chien said: “The armed forces’ usual response protocols for sudden situations ensure that we are fully prepared for handling all kinds of emergencies, and there is regular coordination with other relevant agencies as well.”

When pressed further by media about whether the PLA might adopt this kind of decapitation tactic against Taiwan, Hsu Shih-chien stated that various potential emergencies must be anticipated and simulated in exercises as part of our preparations.
