German Chancellor Merz stated on the 30th that if military actions involving the United States and Israel against Iran evolve into a large-scale regional conflict, Germany and Europe may face pressures similar to those experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic or at the early stages of the Ukraine crisis.
Speaking at a joint press conference with visiting Syrian Interim Government President Shahrah in Berlin, he said this conflict "affects all of us" and "has already permeated our daily lives."
He pointed out that for weeks, German families and businesses have been bearing the brunt of continuously rising energy prices. Germany has also had to again strengthen police protection for synagogues and Jewish communities.
Merz said that, whether on a military or strategic level, there remains great uncertainty surrounding this conflict. He noted that Germany has reached a consensus with its European partners on this matter and will jointly seek solutions.
