Mao Xiaotong Refutes Marriage Rumors with Chen Xiao: Never Together, Never Been Together

On June 19th, a rumor anonymously revealed on Weibo claimed that "a couple of well-known actors, one of whom has previously been married, is planning to wed." After Chen Xiao and Michelle Chen announced their divorce this February, gossip started circling: "Yang Guo leaves Xiaolongnü to be with Guo Fu," alluding to speculation that Chen Xiao had shifted his affections to Mao Xiaotong, who played "Guo Fu" alongside him in "The Romance of the Condor Heroes." Besides that series, the two have also co-starred in "Love Yunge from the Desert" and both seasons of "The Ingenious One," collaborating four times in total—which netizens saw as fate, and therefore linked the rumors to Chen Xiao and Mao Xiaotong. In response, Mao Xiaotong's staff issued a strong statement late at night: "Fake! Ms. Mao Xiaotong is unmarried and single! Has never been together and has never been together with him!"

Once the anonymous rumor broke on the 19th, Weibo discussions centered on the topic "Suspected Mao Xiaotong and Chen Xiao Have Registered Their Marriage." However, paparazzo Liu Dachui pointed out that Mao Xiaotong has recently been seen going out alone with only a male driver—showing no signs of romance. Meanwhile, Chen Xiao was reported to be spending time with his parents in Hefei and volunteering to teach acting. Mao Xiaotong is busy filming her new drama, and there's no actual contact between the two.

Mao Xiaotong's studio also posted two screenshots of discussions about the marriage rumors after 10PM the same evening, stamping the word "Fake" all over, and captioning: "Fake! Their swift response on the same day the rumors began spreading was praised by netizens as the "gold standard for debunking rumors in C-ent," though some Mao Xiaotong fans complained that the studio only spoke out now, after the rumors had persisted since February.
