Wang Yi: Facing the Turmoil of World Peace, China Is the Anchor of Stability

Published at Dec 31, 2025 11:34 am
On the 30th, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated at the Seminar on the International Situation and China’s Diplomacy in 2025 that in the face of the turbulent global situation, China serves as an anchor of stability.

He pointed out that the once-in-a-century changes are accelerating, international relations are turbulent and transforming, and the risk of conflict and confrontation among major powers has significantly risen. As a major power in the world and a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, China has always made it its mission to safeguard world peace, actively promotes the building of a new type of major power relations, encourages peace and talks to cool down hotspot issues, insists on overcoming geopolitical competition through global cooperation, and demonstrates the responsibilities of a major power for maintaining world peace.

He said that over the past year, China-U.S. relations have experienced ups and downs but achieved overall dynamic stability, which serves the common interests of the peoples of both countries and meets the shared expectations of the international community. China-Russia relations have become even more rock-solid, maintaining high-level and steady operation; leaders of the two countries made mutual visits in a historic year, highlighting the true meaning of comprehensive strategic partnership featuring mutual trust and support. China and Europe have reviewed 50 years of cooperation since diplomatic ties, once again confirming the basic orientation of their partnership. Ten Global South countries have officially joined the BRICS Partnership Circle, making the "BRICS family," with its 20 members, increasingly prosperous, and "Big BRICS cooperation" more vibrant.

Wang Yi stated that the Ukraine crisis has dragged on for almost four years. China, taking President Xi Jinping’s "four musts" as the fundamental principles, has been tirelessly creating conditions for peace and building consensus. As one of the initiators of the "Group of Friends of Peace for Ukraine," China sincerely welcomes all efforts conducive to a peaceful resolution of the crisis and actively calls for peace alongside other parties. Now, the window for negotiation has opened; the dawn of peace lies ahead. Although the road forward remains arduous and tortuous, China is willing to continue playing a constructive role and looks forward to reaching a comprehensive, lasting, and binding peace agreement to eliminate the root causes of conflict and achieve enduring peace and stability in Europe.

China’s relations with the world are developing in a more positive direction

Wang Yi pointed out that the course of China’s major-country diplomacy in 2025 has made China more deeply than ever feel that its relationship with the world is developing in a more positive direction, and that China’s international influence, capacity for innovation, and moral appeal have increased significantly.

He said that the reason China’s diplomacy today is so composed and confident and able to forge ahead through waves is crucially due to President Xi Jinping at the helm, the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, the centralized and unified leadership of the Party Central Committee, as well as the strong support of the people and the fact that China’s diplomatic philosophy has always occupied the commanding heights of international morality.

It is essential to explore a correct way for China and the U.S. to get along

Wang Yi said that China-U.S. relations are one of the most important bilateral relations in today’s world. The strategic choices made by China and the U.S. influence the course of world history. Over the past year, China has persistently viewed and handled relations with the United States based on its own and the world’s overall and long-term interests, maintained firm positions and clear attitudes on major principled issues, resolutely opposed on matters involving China's core interests, while also maintaining engagement and dialogue with the U.S. side and seeking cooperation, urging the U.S. to view China rationally and objectively and to resolve differences through negotiation and dialogue. President Xi Jinping and President Trump have had four phone calls and multiple correspondences. During the Busan meeting in South Korea, in-depth communication took place on Taiwan-U.S. relations and major issues concerning world peace and development, guiding the China-U.S. relationship to navigate through rapids and dangers and stay on the right course.

He said, the practice of China-U.S. relations over the past year has shown that whether the two sides can achieve mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation is key to the stable development of bilateral relations and to benefiting the world. China and the U.S. will gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation; a condescending attitude will not work, nor will words and deeds that are inconsistent. China and the U.S. must look for ways to address each other's concerns on the basis of equality, respect, and mutual benefit, and explore the correct way for two major countries to get along.
