(Lawas, 18th) A 17-year-old boy was allegedly shot and wounded in both legs while clearing vegetation at a water catchment area at Long Lidung, Jalan Ba’ Kalalan, Lawas on Saturday (15th).
Lawas District Police Chief, DSP Liong Tindan (transliteration), stated that the incident occurred at around 7pm that evening. At the time, the victim was at a water catchment area by a tributary, approximately 1 kilometer from his home.
He said, as the victim’s home has no water supply, he went to the catchment area, and the incident happened as he was clearing vegetation.
"During the incident, the victim was clearing vegetation around the catchment area when he suddenly felt pain in his legs. Upon inspection, four gunshot wounds were found on his legs, believed to have been caused by a shotgun," he said in a statement.
Liong Tindan stated that the victim had left home at around 5pm, and when he still hadn’t returned by 8pm, his father went out to search, eventually finding him lying in pain in the forest near the catchment area.
He added that the victim was then taken by his father to Lawas Hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
The police are currently investigating the case under Section 37 of the 1960 Arms Act and Section 307 of the Penal Code.
