Taiwanese celebrity NONO (real name Chen Xuan Yu) was involved in the Me Too wave in 2023, allegedly using work invitations and late-night snacks as pretenses to sexually assault or indecently assault six women. He was prosecuted by the prosecutors for 7 crimes, including 3 counts of forced intercourse, 2 attempted forced intercourse, and 2 counts of forcible indecency, with a strong recommendation for a heavy sentence from the court. Over the course of 7 hearings and nearly 10 months of trial, NONO persistently denied all charges and pleaded not guilty. The Shilin District Court sentenced him to 2 years and 6 months in the first trial, with the possibility to appeal.
At 11:00 a.m. on the 13th, the Shilin District Court announced the verdict, with neither NONO nor his legal team present. The prosecution initially determined that NONO was guilty of 7 crimes, but the judge only convicted him of 1 count of attempted forced intercourse, sentencing him to 2 years and 6 months in prison, while acquitting him of all other charges of forced intercourse and forcible indecency.
