Recently, 23 students in Thailand lost their lives in a tragic bus fire accident, drawing significant public attention. Authorities held a royal cremation ceremony on the 8th.
The deceased students and teachers were from Puyesanghalat School in Lan Sak District, Uthai Thani Province. On the 1st of this month, during an outdoor educational activity, their bus unexpectedly caught fire in Pathum Thani Province, located north of Bangkok, resulting in the deaths of 20 students and 3 teachers.
According to Thai News Agency reports, Privy Council President Surayud represented the King to preside over the ceremony.
On the morning of the ceremony, 10 monks chanted prayers for blessings. The families of the victims attended the ceremony, and the atmosphere was filled with sorrow.
Former Thai Prime Minister Srettha arrived at the scene at 10 AM to participate in the chanting ceremony and the royal cremation. Deputy Minister of the Interior Sabita, Uthai Thani Province Member of Parliament Chadha, and other officials were present to welcome him.
At 11 AM, Privy Council President Surayud presided over the cremation ceremony, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Pruthan, and Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin.
“I hoped that wasn't my son”
A reporter from Agence France-Presse interviewed the relatives of the victims. Vichan, who lost his 9-year-old son, said: “When I heard the news, I hoped that wasn't my son… He was wonderful, happy, and loved sports. His dream was to become a footballer.”
Pantima, who lost her 6-year-old grandson in the fire, said: “Now the house seems too quiet... I am very sad. May he rest in peace.”
