(Bandar Seri Begawan, 29th) The Weights and Measures Unit (SDT) and the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) of the Consumer Affairs Department recently conducted a joint monthly operation at several business premises in the Tutong District.

During the operation, SDT officers inspected 13 weighing machines used for trade purposes. All weighing machines were verified, accurate, and registered in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act 1983 (Chapter 151) and the Weights and Measures (Verification) Regulations 1994, Section 3(1) and (2).

Additionally, 2 stores were found to be in violation of the Price Control Act (Chapter 142) and its provisions, particularly Section 3B and Section 5, which involve selling price-controlled items above the maximum price and certain items found at business premises not being marked with prices. For these violations, DEPS has issued 2 warning notices to the stores.

The authorities remind merchants to ensure compliance with the Price Control Act (Chapter 142) and advise consumers to ensure that weighing and measuring machines used in transactions involving weight, volume, and length of equipment have a valid registration label issued by SDT.
