The United Nations World Food Program said that a large number of hungry Palestinians stormed a UN warehouse located in central Gaza on the 28th. Preliminary reports indicate that this incident has resulted in 2 deaths and several injuries.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the United Nations World Food Program emphasized: “Gaza needs an immediate increase in food aid. This is the only way to reassure people that they will not go hungry.”
The statement said: “After 80 days of comprehensive blockade on all food aid and other aid supplies to Gaza, humanitarian needs have spiraled out of control.”
Israel implemented a more than two-month-long comprehensive siege on Gaza and only allowed a small amount of supplies to enter last week.
A video released by AFP shows thousands of Palestinians on Wednesday storming a United Nations warehouse located in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, and seizing bags and boxes containing food.
A similar incident also occurred in Gaza the day before. On the morning of the 27th, thousands of Palestinians swarmed into a U.S.-backed aid center in southern Gaza, and the situation quickly got out of control, with the Israeli military reportedly firing warning shots. The UN reported that at least 47 people were injured, most of them with gunshot wounds.
